Observation of “World Wetlands Day, 2025” at Tamdil lake.

♻️2️⃣3️⃣-0️⃣1️⃣-2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5️⃣World Wetlands Day was observed on 23rd January, 2025 at Tamdil lake, with the theme – “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future”. The event was jointly organized by Mizoram Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and Eco Club, Govt. Saitual College as part of the Environment Education Programme (EEP) sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, Climate Change, Govt. of India.

                                    Dr. Vanrammawii, Coordinator, Eco Club, GSC chaired the observation programme and introduced the resource persons and outlined the programme schedule. A pledge to protect wetlands was led by Ms. R. Khawpuimawii, PO, NSS Unit, GSC. Following this, the first resource person, Ms. Liansangpuii Khiangte, Secy., Eco Club, GSC gave a presentation on the meaning of wetlands, the need for its protection and its importance.

                                    The second speaker, Dr. Lalsiamhnuna, Honorary Wildlife Warden of Saitual District, delivered a lecture on ecosystems and emphasized the need to conserve newly discovered species in Tamdil Lake. After this, the chairperson requested Mr. John Tualzamang, Vice Principal, GSC to have a few speech. The session ended with a vote of thanks from Mr. PL Joseph Lalliantluanga, PO, NSS Unit, GSC.

                                   After the programme, students took part in a cleanup activity, spreading out across the Tamdil Lake area to collect and remove waste. Around 150 Students and 20 Faculty members participated.
